While 2021 hasn’t gotten off to the kind of start we had all hoped for, the COVID-19 lockdown does mean there’s still time to focus on your home. Whether you’ve got big plans for the garden this year to get it ready for summer, or you want to update your kitchen or bathroom suite, you won’t need to worry about going out and about to dispose of your waste.

We want to help you make the most of 2021, which means legal and responsible waste disposal for whatever home projects you’ve got in mind. To help you, we present our guide to skip hire in 2021.

    COVID-Secure Skip Hire in 2021

At Hinton’s Waste, we provide COVID-secure skip hire service for Croydon and the surrounding region. We ensure that social distancing is adhered to and our team are observing hygiene protocols which involve regular hand washing and face coverings – this is part of how we’ve continued to provide domestic skip hire throughout the pandemic and we continue this into 2021 to keep both you and our staff safe.

    Skip Hire Myths

What’s holding you back from hiring a skip? There’s plenty of misconceptions people hold about skip hire, so let us dispel some of those myths…

Myth: You always need a skip permitThis isn’t true. You’ll only need a skip permit if you’re having a skip placed on the road or public highway and we can help with that. If you aren’t allowed to keep a skip on the road, we also offer a wait and load service to help you quickly dispose of waste.

Myth: You can’t put recycling in a skipThis isn’t true. Skip hire from us is a great way to recycle as we take your skip waste back to our facilities where we aim to recycle as much of your waste as we possibly can, avoiding it going to landfill sites.

Myth: Skip hire is expensiveBecause you get the cost of the skip in one lump sum, this might seem true, but in fact, it’s not the case for people who have no car or only a small one. If you added up the time it takes to make multiple trips to your local authority site with your waste, as well as the fuel involved and potential damage you might do to a vehicle getting waste in and out, a skip seems like a pretty sensible investment. Read more about skip hire costs in our article here. Plus, at Hinton’s Waste, our skip hire is competitively priced, so if you’re looking for affordable skip hire in 2021, look no further.

Myth: Skips can take days to be delivered This isn’t true. We know people need skip hire that is both reliable and prompt, that’s why we offer same-day delivery when you order your skip before 12pm. Failing that, we also provide next-day delivery, so you’re never left waiting around. If you do want to book well in advance, that’s ok too!

    Things to Consider

    Permits

It’s always good to have your skip placed on your land – be that your garden or driveway – but if you know this isn’t possible, you’ll need a skip permit. This isn’t a new rule for 2021 and if you need more information or assistance, you can count on our friendly team to help you when it comes to skip hire permits — don’t let this put you off as it’s a daily occurrence when it comes to skips!

    Skip Sizes

Keep in mind how much waste you think you’re going to produce. If you order a skip that’s too small, you will end up paying to have another, whereas if you go too big, you will end up paying for space you don’t use. As a rule of thumb, it’s better to overestimate a little, but you can ask our team for advice on what skip size roughly you need by telling us about the project you’re working on and what materials you’ll want to dispose of.

What can and can’t go in a skip?

Most waste types from home projects will be accepted in a skip, but to give you an idea of what we are happy to accept, here’s a quick list:

    • Bricks and rubble
    • Metals
    • Wood and garden waste
    • Soil
    • Furniture such as desks, chairs and sofas
    • Food packaging
    • Cardboard
    • Solidified paint

Things we cannot accept in our skips include:

    • Appliance and WEEE waste
    • Liquids such as oils and medicines
    • Solvents and chemicals such as paint, glue and bleach
    • Plasterboard
    • Tyres
    • Batteries
    • Gas cylinders
